Detecting metal before the granulator avoids extensive and costly damage to the granulator. These high sensitivity metal detectors can detect all types of metals as well as other electrically conductive materials. Metal detectors are usually installed on a conveyor belt.

As for slow-speed granulators, a metal detector is placed on the inlet tank. The main advantage of this solution is that the rotor is stopped when the metal is detected. This prevents the metal from reaching the granulator cutting area thereby eliminating costly damage to knives and rotor segments.
